Weathering the Storm

What a year it has been! From heavy downpours and fierce winds to snowstorms and heat waves, 2024 has certainly kept us on our toes. As Mother Nature asserts her power, we can’t help but mutter, “Enough already!”

The heavy rains in July and August caused some serious erosion in the vineyards. We also suffered infrastructure damage when the soil that underpins some of our structures on the property washed away. We have been busy for the past three months with reparations to have all neat and tidy, come our open weekend. Despite this, we have also managed a full upgrade to our entrance which we hope you will enjoy.

Despite the chaos outside, we hope you’ve found comfort in these winter months—perhaps with slow-cooked meals and rich red wines by the fire. Now, as we anticipate warmer days and balmy nights, we’re excited to share our diverse offerings to suit every palate and occasion, rain or shine.

Celebrate with Hout Bay Vineyards

We are very thrilled to announce our recent triumph at the Fine Wine Awards, the largest blind tasting event in SA with some 900+ entries. Our MCC, Klasiek by Catharine 2020, got the highest score which meant we took home the prestigious trophy award! It was a moment of pride for us, this recognition truly puts us on the map and among the larger producers.

In addition, we’re excited to launch our 2019 Petrus Red Blend. Each vintage tells a story, reflecting the unique climate and mindset of our winemakers. This year, the star of the blend is the juicy Grenache Noir, inspired by the beautiful Languedoc region of France.

Tasting Notes:

Grenache Noir: Smooth and delicate with an aromatic profile, it adds both structure and depth.
Shiraz: Bold and robust, featuring hints of liquorice and spice.
Mourvèdre: Full-bodied and tannic, this grape brings complexity with flavours of blackberries, blueberries, and baking spices.

Whether you’re grilling a steak, indulging in a burger, or enjoying a cosy pasta dish, we have the perfect wine to complement your meal.

As always our gates will open at 12 noon and close at 17:00. Tickets will be sold at the vineyard and seating is on a first come first serve basis. Everyone welcome however unfortunately no dogs!
